To the OP:
#1 It's a motorcycle. Wind and buffetting happen.
#2 I am 5-11 and a 7" recurve directs air out of my face. 8 1/2" standard shield does the same.
#3 How hot is it where/when you ride? How fast are you riding? On warm days, any wind is goid wind.....

I'm 5'7"" and had buffeting until I installed fangs on the forks. Ugly as sin, but no buffeting.
This could save you from buying several new shields.
If you feel around where the dirty air is coming from you can feel a ton of it aiming right at your face coming up from underneath. Fangs totally remove that. I put on a between the forks deflector also. It also helps direct the air blast away from you and towards the engine.

Well aware "it's a motorcycle" ..I also know what a good set up rides like and this is NOT a good set up. Wind smashing you in the teeth as it's forced over the shield so hard you can't hear a bike? ... Ridiculous.
my dyna w no protection is an easier ride. And no , at 90 degrees it still won't feel good. This is a long trip bike for me for vacations so it's gotta get solved. Will try higher shield first

I have used a variety of products and found the fangs and these work the best for Buffeting http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/Cool...DK-CDW-TRG.htm these cooling air deflector wings are easy to install and are not ugly. Windshields do not eliminate the air coming around the fairing and up around the tank smacking up under your chin.

That right there. ^^^

Windshields help wind hitting you straight in the face. Fangs help turbulence from under - which is a big deal even once to get the right windshield. I would say especially then, because once you get rid of the short shield the absence of wind over the screen hitting you in the face allows for the wind from underneath.

The JES fangs are on my SGS in the pic. Because they are black, and the forks are black, they are hardly noticeable.

I run the 10 inch HD windsplitter. Everyone is different and has a preference. The thing I liked was I was able to demo it before buying. I've tried a number of different shields and so far it's the best one for me. The problem is, you have to find a balance between the wings and the shield. If you have wings, and use too big of a shield, you'll get significant back pressure on your head and neck. Really not fun in the rain, and even in dry weather, it puts strain on your neck.

So if you use the wings, and trust me you want them, you want the lowest shield possible to keep smooth airflow over the shield, and to not create a low pressure zone that allows the back pressure thing.

1-First have the fairing vent open.

2-Adjustable Air Deflectors, HD part# 57000529 for $119.95, cheaper at a 20% off dealer.

3-www.longrideshields.com

the wind stopped when I put an arm across the top of the shield..doesn't seem like its from lower sources. Ordered the shield suggested and for under 90 bucks its worth a try for sure. Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated !

My thread will tell you all about my battle with buffeting. I have won the battle with new windshield, fork fangs, and fairing deflectors. Buffeting gone.

+1 on the LRS Ultra Recurve, the HD Fork Fangs, and a Kuryakn between the fork wind deflector (ashtray) - totally eliminated all buffeting for me.

If you buy during a LRS sale you'll probably spend $150 on the whole shebang - best money you'll ever spend!
