Default Windshield Help

Bike is a 2012 Ultra Limited. Rider is 6' tall wearing a Shoei Neotec helmet. Current winshield is a 10" LRS Ultra Elite W recurve. JES wind deflectors on front forks.

With this setup still getting annoying and somewhat fatiguing buffeting on the top area of my helmet at Hwy speed (65-75mph). Any taller of a windshield will put me looking thru it, or the top of it in my line of sight.

Not completely sold on this re-curve claim. While I do believe it does push some of the air a few inches higher, it seems as tho the air that does hit your helmet is turbulent air. At Hwy speeds I don't think the re-curve design is able to over come the 65+ mph air flow.

Any suggestions on a different style of WS that might help with the buffeting at the top of my helmet? I know that LRS and a few other Co.'s sell a few different WS shapes and designs.

Looking to try something different or just go to a taller WS and live with having to look thru it. Thanks for any help.

I've played around with different setups and it's not always intuitive. I found a smaller shield helped me. The buffeting could be from to much windshield.

what works for me won;t work for you- the helmet shape and design is the difference.

have you tried any other type helmets?

the only helmet which doesn't bobble on my head is a HD branded 1/2 with a ducktail-

I cut the bottom ( hidden) edge of a stock windscreen so that the top edge appears to intersect the road about 40' in front of the bike.

normally I look over the top- in crap weather i can tuck into it

bonus with the HD Lexan is that it is tough and will stop a rock on the highway

Funny I did try a 9" no re-curve WS and the buffeting was no worse and maybe slightly better. Might be due to the air hitting the helmet is clean air so to speak. Didn't really think about it being my helmet but that is also a good possibility.

I also have a friend having a similar problem with a 2015 Ultra with the same helmet. Hope I can solve this without having to replace a $600 helmet I really like.

I agree with the other posts. Could be too much windshield. I am 5-11 and have a 7" LRS Ultra Elite w/ recurve and the wind hits me at the top of the helmet. Maybe 8". Call your local Harley dealer and see if he has a "loaner" to try. I do 80+ and have no issues as I understand I am not in a cage. Good luck in your search.

What a great thread

I rode Softails for years which were easy to fix and make comfortable but I moved on to an 14 Ultra Classic (still have my 91 Softail) which was stolen within a year so I never even really got started working on it.
Now I'm going out test out a 13 Street Glide in 2 days
.
I'm 6'6" 240 lbs and wear 36 x 36 jeans so I'm like everyone else on here and really needed this thread.

Thanks for having me and now I can start reading all the pages

Again Thanks

I'm 6'2" and have a Windvest 10 inch shield on my 2012 FLHTK. I couldn't be happier with it's performance. It has a slight re-curve at the top. The shield is much wider than most along the top edge. Perhaps this adds to it's performance. I'll include a link.

I'm 6', ride a '14 Limited and use a LRS Ultra Elite Recurve. I purchased a Shoei Neotec about a years ago. When I was riding home down the 45 freeway, the buffeting was so bad my eyeballs were bouncing around so much that it looked like there were eight lanes of traffic instead of three lanes. When i got home, I did a forum search for "helmet buffeting". Of course, there were probably a hundred threads on the subject. After reading through several of them, I found someone who recommended the Cooling Deflector Wings from D K Custom Products. Based on the product description, it sounded like the wings would do the trick, so I ordered them. After installing them, the buffeting was reduced a lot. Not 100%, but enough to make wearing the helmet very tolerable. I highly recommend this product.
