Solid riser bushings for SG
Sorry if this is a reoccurring thread but I haven't seem to have come across the answer. I am looking for a set of solid riser bushings to pair up with my 16" monkey bars. All I'm finding are polyurethane, which worst comes to worst I'll give a shot. I have seen the LA chopper solid riser bushings but they are listed for FX and other similar models, but no touring. I am not sure if they are all the same/universal or not. I'm 6'4 and will have 16" bars so there's going to be some torque on them, so I'm trying to eliminate any movement in the bars. I have read some negative reviews on the polys with guys running 16" bars so I'd rather save myself the headache. Anyone running solids or advice on where to find them would be much appreciated. 2013 FLHX..
Thanks.
Thanks.
Even with 12" bars on mine I'd get slippage from the leverage, so I got a new clamp with 3 hex set screws in it that helps secure the bars. I think it was called "gorilla grabber" or something like that, I know the place was from somewhere in Texas.
Man, I would highly recommend against solid metal bushings...however, pingman68 is correct, a number of suppliers, including Yaffe Bagger Nation, I believe, sells top clamps with set screws. Or, on the cheap, one could drill and tap the OEM piece. OR, I've heard of guys drilling the clamp and driving roll pins into them.
There really needs to be a bit of flex in the handlebars...otherwise, you eliminate one of the biggest reasons to have a modern Harley Davidson...back in the day, the engines were solid mounted, and riding one just meant putting up with vibration. And it was okay, didn't kill anybody.
But if you do go to solid bushings, OP...would sure be interesting to see how it worked for ya...

I will look into another clamp, I saw the one on bagger nation but again, no listing for street glide.
This just occurred to me.. my initial post was regarding movement in the bushings, not the bars moving in the clamps. But now I'm wondering if I should get a different clamp than the one piece stock clamp...??
Well, it's such a pain to get in there that it makes good sense to take care of every conceivable thing the first time thru. If you take all the play out of it with solid bushings the the stress placed on the bars will go to the clamps.
Do you currently have good poly ones torqued down good? The stock rubber one's are a joke. One of the first things that I change.I think I have seen delrin ones I would try if the polyurethane ones don't work for you.

I think any top clamp that works for a touring model for your year will work on a Street Glide...or you can drill and tap your OEM one for set screws, too, although it looks like the Gorilla Grabber and similar might provide some extra material for longer threads...
