Some of my buddies ride a bike, like their pick up... highest gear... lowest revs
I ride mine like a sports car... lower gear, higher revs...
None of us have a problem with excessive vibrations...
If you are rolling along in 4th gear... at 50 MPH... whether it's a MACK truck, a Porsche, or a motorcycle.... and upshift into 5th
the only difference should be a drop in revs...
sounds like you have something broken...

sorry, I have to disagree politely with this one.
kroozeabout.
kroozeabout nailed it in earlier post. Simply lugging. Run her in 4th at 50mph and ride it like you stole it in 5th. It'll run much smoother.
Welcome to the family!

^^^this^^^...,my '03 Road King likes 4th gear at 50mph and likes 5th gear at no less than 60mph. It's very smooth and runs great...
Sounds to me like there's something wrong with your particular bike. My '96 Road King is smooth in all gears.
Since you have a 20 year old bike I would suspect something is wrong. I would first check your motor mounts.
Ditto on the mounts. Not sure why you're not feeling that in lower gears, but it may be that you're transitioning through the lower gears quickly and don't have time to feel it. Good luck!
My first thought goes to the engine mounts and the handlebar bushings. I also wonder if it might also have anything to do with the final gear/pulley. Changing it out will change how your bike feels (RPMs). Maybe switch to a new set of gears that has it cruising at a slightly higher RPM?
It's not the motor mounts, it's me learning v-twin riding styles.
Stopped at an old friends house today to have him check it out. He has been working on and owned damn near every style Harley made for the past 40 years.
He looked it over said everything looked fine, then took it for a little test ride. Said it rode just like it's supposed to. He tried 50mph in 5th and said that gear was too high for that speed under any load on this bike. Told me EVO's run better in higher RPM's 3k to 3.5. Then busted my chops about spending too much of my life riding metrics.
Cost me a six pack for the ordeal. Well...actually only 3 beers as I had to drink the other 3. Damn it!

I hate it when that happens.....!!!
I'm talking about needing to help out with drinking the beers, not the rpm/speed thing...
Actually, he may be onto something. Although I really don't feel much of a difference in vibration between gears my GoPro certainly does. My fork mounted Hogtag mount is real bouncy until I get over 2600 or so RPM's and then it smooths out.
Funny thing is I don't remember it being this way before I did the cam swap. That may be contributing to it.
