Thank you in advance, rode bike from CT to VT on Friday, rode bike for benefit run on Saturday, been running great. Loaded bike for trip back to CT on Sunday morning, wont start, Hear fuel pump wind up when run switch engaged, good strong crank, checked easy things I could in dirt parking lot at inn, pulled spark plugs, grounded electrode against head bolt - no spark detected. Bike is 2004 ultra classic fuel injected, stock filter and exhaust. Any ideas on what I should take with me and/or what to look for when I get to go back next weekend would be especially appreciated. Thanks again.
Good chance on a 04 that if you removed both plugs, it will not fire. Need to just remove wires and place on new plugs and secure ground them to check. An 04 bike uses the Harley plug resistance and compression as a check to set advance. They usually will not fire like you described. That is in the service manual. Your actual spark is the ECM running, monitoring and controlling all functions of the bike.
Best you take a trailer
Did you check historical codes? It could be something like crank position sensor, or it could be something with fuel system. Unplug the quick connect under the left side of the tank and then reconnect and see if it starts afterward. Hoses within the tank get pinholes and can split/erode and cause problems as well. Where in VT is the bike located?
I had that situation last summer. All was well until it wasn't. Pull codes first. I don't think plugs are going to just go. Mine was the ECM after checking everything I could possibly check myself. Good luck.
Thanks for the info, keep it coming, and that chart looks like it might help, hopefully something comes of it. A friend trailered the bike back to CT closer to home so hopefully I can look at it soon.
I have an 02 FLHTC carb not FI. I had same problem. Would crank but not start and no spark. I replaced the crank position sensor and it solved the problem.
