Default Rejetting

Hello All,

Just bought my first Harley and am about to put true dual headers on, V&H slip ons, and SE stage 1 air cleaner (going open filter). I have been looking around the forms and am looking for a few suggestions. I am planning to get the premium tuning kit from CV Peformance for the mixture screw, better needle, idle adjustment screw and everything else - https://cv-performance.com/harley-ca...ium-tuners-kit

What I am wondering is what size main and pilot jets does everyone think I should be using? Should I follow the modifcation reccomendation of Night Rider such as the slide modifcation? - http://nightrider.com/biketech/hd_cv...tm#vacuum_port

Anything else that should be done right away?

I use the nightrider mods to good effect on a number of bikes.

there is no need to buy a "kit"- nightrider gives HD part numbers.

kawasaki and triumph also used the keihin CV carb and have jet and needles too

once you have a handful of parts- the tricky part is tuning- by being methodical and following the tips, you'll end up with a great running bike for $30

I replace the float bowl screws with allens which I could easily get off at the side of the road to swap jets and a little hand mirror

Google Joe Minton article on modding the CV carb, good information in the article.

Looks like Joes article is basically covered in the nightrider mods using the XLH needle. Seems to be the route to go.

when you are chamfering slide, take the time to get a good polish on the rails so that the slide is more able to slide freely.

I've never had good result from any f the spring kits - once you drill the slide air bleed to .125" the stock spring is fine...great even.

there is always a tendency to go too rich, careful testing will get you right.

It would help to know the year and model bike you have.

I have an 03 Electra Glide Classic

From what I have gathered, the Joe and Nightrider method are the same thing... Nightrider gives you options to use the 88 sporty needle or the oem needle with spacers, and then a few additional mods. It also seems that the deluxe tuning kit from CV Performance is a great buy as they have the 88 sporty needle, lighter slide spring, EZ-mixture screw, hex bolts, gasket, 1/8" bit, and if you choose the custom package you can specify the pilot/main jets. - https://cv-performance.com/cvp-harle...uxe-tuners-kit

So I am leaning towards the Joe/Nightrider method using the deluxe kit

Just to clarify, our CVP Deluxe kit does not include a 1/8" bit nor do we endorse drilling a slide with a bit that large. That method was shown to be inaccurate soon after it was published but nobody ever retracted it (information lives forever online). Instead our kit includes a smaller 7/64 bit which is the largest you should ever drill a slide for non-racing applications, and on brand new slides that have less burs we recommend no drilling at all when using our spring in the kit. The kits also use our specially developed needle that eliminates any trial and error tuning when using shims and a 88 XL needle.

Thank you for considering our kit and feel free to contact us through our site should you have any questions. I don't always get around to all of the forums so I may not always chime in or reply here.
