Default ACC Switch - What does it do?

No, this is not a trick question!

I'm puzzled about the ACC rocker switch that currently resides on my '07 Electra Glide Classic. If I turn the switch on, the switch lights up, but i have no idea what this switch turns on or off.

I do have the lighter plug on the left side of the fairing, perhaps the ACC switch is controlling that? I currently have nothing that gets plugged into the lighter, but maybe my Garmin Nuvi in the future.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Bob

Mine does nothing right now. Was told by salesman it was there for hooking up stuff like lights and whatnot. I think its just a switch with power to it to use for whatever you want to hook up.

on my SG there is a connector under the seat. i had to pull out the battery to get to it. it is a 4 prong Duethsch (kinda spelled like that). i am wiring my fog lights to the switch. if you ask around, there is someone who has probably wired in the GPS to it. that is my plan if i get one.

Read about it in your manual in the index under accessory switch.

You might want to wire your GPS to an unswitched outlet - otherwise when you stop and fill up gas you will lose your GPS sync. Better to turn it off at the GPS when you want it off. Some GPS units will automatically switch to the internal battery when the external 12V is cut off - but what if that battery is already dead.

Does anyone know where to buy those ACC switches that are on the glides?

I have an ACC switch on my EG and powered a clock in my fairing. The switch was not affected when I turned my moto on or off, so I think wiring a GPS to it may be a good idea.

I bought another one at the local HD shop. It will run you about $25 or so.

Installing it is another story though!

According to the shop manual, you need to partially remove the ignition switch, and then remove the fascia. There is a metal set of tabs that need to be fitted into the switch and then clipped into the fascia piece. Wire according to what you want, then put everything back.

I haven't tried it yet, but thought the ACC switch would look better than that cheesy looking rubber clickie switch that comes on the harness for the HD fog lights.

Cheers!

There is an assy. plug under your seat just in front of the battery on the right side. The switch controls that.
