Default Tire Recommendation

Looking to replace my tires. I've been running Dunlop Elite 3's for the last three sets. But I ran into a guy in Idaho, and was riding on Michelin Commander II's, and he swore by them. Said he was getting over 20K on the front, and 12-15K on the rear. Is this possible? Anyone out there had any experience with these tires. Recommendations? I found them on line with Dennis Kirk for $243.76 for the set. All other sources were $2--$75 more.

Just bought a set of Commander 2's from bike bandit, front tire was around $140, rear was about $190, least expensive I could reasonably find. Dennis Kirk was about the same price, but I live in MN, and they'd charge me sales tax. Haven't put them on yet, hopefully they are as good as reported.

What do you value? Traction or mileage?

for my next set. im going pirelli. $314 for f&r from jake wilson. a little more than elite dunlops. but they have a rebate of some sort.

really think they will hold up as well as the elites. suppose to have great traction and handling both wet and dry.

I just recently put on a set of Commander II's and couldn't be more pleasantly surprised. Smooth ride and excellent grip. We'll see how they wear, but so far so good. Highly recommend.

I am still diggin' the HD Dunlop WWW's on my RKC.
I time my purchases when the dealers have their tire sale around Christmas.
For me, they strike a good balance between traction and longevity.
I fully accept that my performance upgrades effect my rear tire life.

I think you are using MU85B16 on yours right...the American elite and Elite III are similar, I currently have a Commander on the rear of my 07 and I can say I do not like it asuch as the Dunlop, I tried the Night Dragons and they don't last, neither did the Avon Venom, I haven't tried the Avon Cobra or Metzeller 888 but I have a American Elite in the garage and it's going on before my NC mountains ride on Sunday.

I chose the American Elite's due to them being made in USA... from domestic/foreign materials... whatever... Happy 4th!!

I have not used the Commander II's so can't comment there.

The American Elite's are really nice. Smooth and have a nicely rounded profile. They feel at least as good as the factory tires with plenty of grip for the corners. The bike feels much more nimble and connected. Much better than the old factory tires I removed. They were getting pretty worn out and turning up rubber on the edges of the rear tire.

Whatever you choose, let us know what you think.

I'm running the Metzler 888 on the rear and so far so good, I have a bit over 3000 miles and the wear pattern is great, no cupping at all. This may be due to the fact I'm running 48 psi in the rear.
