New handlebar install, engine light on code U0142. Everything is working but the engine light is on. I know it must be in the wiring vs engine trouble. I am suppose to be in a road trip tomorrow. Will it hurt it to run it and look into it after the week long trip? Is it as easy as pulling the headlight and checking the wiring? 2017 Road King Special.

You have a communication problem with the right hand controls. I would unplug all the right hand connectors and plug them back in.

Copy thanks. The engine light cleared but now the abs light is flashing. There is no code showing for the ABS though.

Take it for a ride the abs light may clear itself.

Wonder why it is throwing codes after the handlebar install. Everything is operational. Is it just trying to reset itself from everything being unplugged?

Just in case you get future codes. Hope you get the gremlin fixed man.
Did you pull the main fuse when installing the handlebars? If not pull let set for ten minutes plug back in and start bike.

Thanks everyone. Rode 50 miles home, no warning lights. I guess the bike was just resetting itself from everything being unplugged. Relief, off to Cookeville TN tomorrow from KC for the Hog Rally. Everyone have a great weekend and ride safe. It is cager mating season, bastards are everywhere.
