I installed Carlini gangster apes and have them straight up. The windshield does hit them, so I've been procrastinating to remove the fiberglass windshield from the quick disconnect frame and replace with poster board after I've traced the exact shape. Then I will start cutting to see how much I would have to cut from my windshield to get it to go on.

Using them with my half helmet which i rarely use but it is very helpful specially when your setup is a dresser duals and CFR. just try to take them off and on every stop even it is a 5 minutes.

I just visited this website posted by another member here on another thread. https://www.westone.com/store/defend...al/motorsport/
has anybody used these or something similar? Obviously I still want to hear traffic, sirens, and of course exhaust but the wind leaves my ears ringing for hours after the ride. Kinda sucks.
Yes, I wear a half helmet.
I've been using
these these
since my military days with no issues. A box of them lasts me over a year and I put on 10,000 plus miles / year. They are extremely comfortable and of course you can hear sounds around you. One of the best noise reduction ratings (NRR 32 db) on the market for disposable ear plugs. I wear these for hours on end without discomfort and also sleep with them. They can be used several times as well.

Oh, no way in hell would I spend the coin for Westone, IMO absolutely not worth it. In addition to that their site says:

"Attenuation
Not intended as protection from noise"

If that is the case just what are they intended for?

I find the music is clearer without the rush of wind in my ears when wearing 1/2 helmets. I also have tinnitus from my army days. I wear a modular 90% of the time and when I ride long distance for many days ---I use a set of surefire ear plugs ---for some reason, ear plugs (even with a full face) just reduces my overall fatigue when riding thousands of miles. "FOR ME" it just reduces all of those additional sounds while riding that far and I just feel more rested

Since I get the Westones for free, I use them all the time. In addition to the 25db sound filter, they also came with "plugs" that block even more sound.

I can wear the Westones all day, but if I wear foam earplugs I have to take them out periodically. Unfortunately, my ear canals are so damn sensitive that even the expansion pressure from foam plugs causes pain after a few hours.

Even if I didn't get them for free, I would gladly pay for the Westone plugs.

The challenge is to find a kind of earplugs that are comfortable and stay comfortable if you wear them all day. Some are easier to insert because they have a hard core in the middle of the flanges. But they become uncomfortable to me after an hour or so. After much trial and error, I have settled on the Surefire EP4s, which I can comfortably wear day in/day out on tour. http://www.surefire.com/ep4-sonic-defenders-plus.html You can also get them on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/SureFire-Defe...ep4&th=1&psc=1

I don't use the provided (but optional) cord between the two plugs. With the clear plugs they are almost invisible and work with any helmet style.
I second this suggestion. Have a pair of these, but didn't use them as often as I should have. Now that I have this f-ing tinnitus I us them ALL the time to help keep it from getting worse. Don't damage your hearing get something, these work great for me. And yes, I am an old fart

i had my wife make the ear molds for me and just got my 2 pairs of custom made plugs from bernafon. so far they do quite well. difficult to put in, but they are so tight and my ear canal is apparently quite small.

before that i was just using the clear silicone gel plugs you buy at the pharmacy, but those only last a few rides.

We had a local hearing aid place make a presentation on preserving and protecting your hearing at a HOG meeting this summer. I'm definitely going to stop by and get fitted for a custom pair. $150 total. I've been through more than $150 trying different sizes and styles of earplugs, and none were satisfactory.

I've got high hopes for these.

No doubt the custom plugs (with or without speaker elements built-in) are the best in fit and function. I've had a few different sets made. I find that I don't use them on the short trips (the cheap foam plugs work good enough) but do on longer trips. I think that as long as you take some measure to protect against hearing loss you are better off than using no protection at all. Focus on comfort and convenience as the customs may not be either depending on the helmet you use.

WTF? Ear plugs are illegal in some states? Guess I never cared enough to read the laws other than for helmets and eye protection!
