I thought about using carpet liners, but they do steal a bit of capacity. I use lift-out bags instead. They protect stuff from rattling around, while making it dead easy to load and unload.

I wondered the same thing. So I purchased a peel and stick liner which is almost like very heavy felt with the consistency of indoor-outdoor carpet. The pre-cut panels stretched as needed and protect everything from scratches... even glasses. They have been installed over two years and are holding up well. I think I paid around $17 on EBay or Amazon.

I bought the Harley davidson drop in carpet material bag liners. They fit perfectly, are held by velcro and are easy to remove if you want to clean them. They aren't the cheapest, but l'm quite satisfied with them. I got them from Surdyke for $130.00,with free shipping.
