Default 96 RK carb, air, and exhaust upgrade

I really need some suggestions on what to do here. I'm having all sorts of fuel and cooling issues and have been wanting to upgrade some things on a fully stock engine and exhaust. Was thinking of going with the super e but have been told to just mod the original cv carb. Said it would be cheaper and more practical and have tons of aftermarket air kits unlike the super e where you're stuck with one air kit. Also, by original header cracked on me and has a pretty shitty weld that will give out eventually so I'm wanting to go true duals with a nice sounding slip on but the I've never moded a bike like this and don't know enough to figure out sounds and pricing or brands or anything. Everything I look up online is either someone with a Frankenstein type mod system and I don't plan on doing things like ripping out baffles or bending pipe and cutting stuff. So I really need some suggestions by people that know their **** to help me out. Thank you for your time

Also I guess I should have said i have baddad stretched bags and rear fender and really want to full the exhaust hole. Pretty sure 4in and probably even 4.5in would fit. In am not really a fan of black caps so I would like to stick with chrome and the current exhaust has the upward slash which looks aesthetically nice so I think I'd like to stick with an upward slash. Also, I don't really like the sloppy drag sounds. I like low to mid real low growl.

Stop on in at the EVO sub-forum, and I am sure that the guys there can help you out.

If you are having fuel, and cooling issues I would suggest you get those figured out first before changing anything else. Lastly, true duals may sound like a good idea, but a 2 into 1 system will usually yield better performance.

modding and tuning the cv carb is about a $30 job- take the time to read up

nightrider.com

biketech section

then the tuning the cv carb and the modding the cv carb

you don;t need a "kit' many of them are a ripoff

if you think your header weld is poor- have that fixed- these breaks are often caused by riders hammering on and off mufflers

for an air cleaner the ness big sucker or an older version screaming eagle for the carb- get one with an oiled washable reusable filter media ( like k&n)

the CV is cheap and self-compensates for altitude- the S&S and mikuni do not.

for "sound"- go hear other bikes- and see what sound appeals to you- 2/1, 2/1/2, 2/2 and then muffler type

do you like the radio? do you want to do distance?

I bought the bike with very low miles I think they were at twelve thousand miles whenever I bought the bike. I'm not a hard Rider. I hate hammering on and pulling off the throttle. I get to speed through nice cruising and control and then I catch speed and go. I rarely even speed. I don't know exactly how the crack happened in the exhaust but it was something that was fixed with a small weld. As far as I understand those old y-pipes like that used to crack all the time and cause people issues all the time. As for the fuel issue in the heating issue it's been gone all the way through and the only thing anyone can think of is an issue within the original CV carb or that that weld wasn't sealed fully so there's too much heat going straight back onto the engine and causing issues. I've been wanting to do an upgrade anyway so I'm hoping this will solve the problem and allow for a good dyno tuning and also give me the sound I've been wanting to get from the exhaust and hopefully open everything up for great airflow and everything else. I'll go check out the Evo forum as suggested I should have done that anyway I just thought maybe I could get some input because I do have a touring model bike. I appreciate the time that has been taken to answer the question so far and would love any other kind of suggestion that anyone could have.

the evo forum has more DIY and smart guys than this forum- most owners have late models...so less things have gone wrong ( yet).

I love the cv and have modded and tuned dozens for friends.

and used on my 88 FXRP and on my 95 FLHTC ( which I sold)
