I just changed the chaincase lube on my 07' Ultra. The book says put in 38OZ. for just a fluid change. The 06' says 32OZ. When I put in 38OZ I thought the fluid was supposed to come up to the edge of the inspection cover when upright. All I can see is a little in the bottom of the case. Does anybody know the proper amount when just doing a fluid change? T.
Not to sound rude, but your service manual is correct and you should follow the instructions. It equals out to be 1 full quart + six ounces of a second bottle. I just completed my service today, taking my time in the hot NW florida sun, took me 8 hours. I must have had 20 cool down breaksbecause the humidity was horrible today. Anyway, I used a measure cup to get the exact measurement from the second bottle syc 3. The service manual states, if you overfill, you will have clutch problems.

Filling to the bottom of the inspection (derby) cover will grossly overfill it. With my old Evo RK I would fill 'til it touched the bottom of the clutch drum, but on the '07 I can't even see the bottom of the drum. So, I use 38 oz.
Thanks for the replys. Some of my buddies with older harleys said to fill it til it overflows. Then a buddy with an 06' said 1 qt. The 07's are different. T.
For what its worth I have an 05 and did my first service myself. I measured what I took out and it was about 36+ oz. Even though the refill for my year says 32 oz. I put back 32 because thats what I had on hand but I may open the derby cover or inspection cover and a few oz's when I pick up more. I've gone over 1000 miles and all iswell. BUT from what I read 07 IS different(6 speed)and takes 36-38 oz.
My 98 RG, 01 EGC/01 police RK, 06 EGC manuals all say same thing.
They have a picture of the clutch section exposed (derby cover offz)
with a line marking the height when on the jiffy stand. Right about at
the bottom of the clutch center line.
32 oz usually puts it right there.
When the bike is straight up this leaves the clutch drum just slightly in the oil.
Too much oil and the components will be immersed too far and will create a fluid drag
robbing you of power.
