I had one of those rubber things come out, took just a few seconds to get it back in. Angled it about 45°, set it in the hole, pushed on the top of the pad where the foot rests, to get half the end through; may have pushed that thing a little with a finger between pad and base. Pushed the tip sideways to get the other half to pop through.

I figured thats what you meant by drilling. They came on the bike (bought used) else wouldn't have had this problem!

I used Ruglyde rubber lube from napa and long thin needle nose plyers while slightly pushing from the top. Just did this last week. Don't be stingy with the lube and be patient.

I found that pulling the bottom with pliers while using a small flat blade screwdriver on the top pushing simultaneously did the trick for me. That, and lots of lube. Frustrating, but patience persevered.

Just came across this, major major bitch. I bough the nostalgia rear inserts and the skinny part of the nub cane right (yes had it lubed)

Now I tried and eventually got the OEM insert installed again crazy nuts PITA to do.

Question is has anyone ever tried tying dental floss around the renaming nub and tried pulling through?

I have one new Nostalgic insert w/ the tip's off both mounting numbs and at wits end. If

dental floss pulled/tore the nub right off on my original one (post #1 of this thread).

I finagled it for the rest of the season (no passenger that frequently so no issue) and I ordered a new one over the winter but have not installed yet.

Windex also works as an excellent lubricant on rubber then goes away - the nubs must be pulled through not pushed through.

Silicone spray, dielectric grease - any of that will work. Please don't take the hammer approach.

Lots of patience, a couple of more beers and silicone lube worked for me. The dawn dishwashing detergent did not cut it for me. Silicone, patience, small screwdriver and blunt nose pliers did the trick. Not fun, but it can be done.

I squirt liquid soap on them, get them stared by hand as good as possible and use a small pair of needle nose pliers to pull them through while putting pressure on from the back side. Works like a charm for me...
