Soak the rubber inserts in really hot water for 10 minutes.

Push them into the holes and pull them through-gently- with a pair of slotted pliers with rubber or surgical tubing over the jaws.

Spray windex on the holes as you work them through.

The problem with "re-inserting" is that as major105bc pointed out, the original floor board rubbers had a long piece of rubber attached to them that was a provision for pulling through the hole. Once the "flared" piece was through the hole the excess ( long piece ) will break off.

This is one of those things that I paid the shop $20 to do and saved my sanity. I couldn't even finish my coffee, and he was done.

I installed mine originally on my 09 RK and then moved them over to my 17 RK. No issues. Lube them with detergent or WD40. I used needle nose pliers to pull them through. Did you drill the hole wide enough?

per post 1, the floss actually ripped one of the heads off.

there are no holes to drill, the holes come in the floorboards from the factory.

Brain fart.

I had to drill to get the chrome cover to attach to the base. The rubber foot pad just worked. Lube and needle nose pliers. Works here and in other places.

Needle nose pliers worked even without the lube for me. I just completed this about a week ago. Good Luck. The more its stretched, the easier it will make it through the hole.

Just don't pull on them too hard as they can break or pull apart.

The floorboard metal is kind of delicate so it's important to use short metal screws and just enough torque to "snug" the screws.
^^^^ This.
