I'm trying to find out motors will fit into my 2006 Electra Glide Standard frame. It has the 96 inch Twin Cam motor in it now but I'd like to upgrade to a larger motor but I prefer HD motors over aftermarket. I think my motor jumped time and might be toast at this point. Not sure about the mileage because it was used when I bought it.
Your 2006 electra glide standard came with a 88 cubic inch engine. A 96 incher will not fit in a 2006 frame with out a lot mods to the frame. I suspect you have a 95 cubic inch engine. All that had to be done to the 88 engine was to bore the cylinders and add larger pistons. All you need is an engine that came out a 1999 to 2006 (preferably a 2002)and some $$$$ and you can make what your looking for....
As mentioned, your out of luck with 2007 up engines. Your 88 was bored out to 95, you could bore it out to 98, or you could install the stroker crank from 07 up which turns 88's into 96'ers. In your case it would end up 103, since your engine is already bored out to 95. A 103 is a bored AND stroked 88.
There was a 103 that came standard in the 2006 touring CVO's that would fit if you can find one.

What am I missing here? It was my understanding that there was no frame change until 09. I know 07 and 08 are in between yesrs but I've always understood they shared a frame with earlier model years. Surely HD didn't change frames for just 2 years???

It's not an issue with fitting the frame. It's an issue fitting the tranny and primary.. If you swap the whole drive train from the an 07 up, it will drop in..

07 frame was closest.. 08 they moved the top motor mount to the front cylinder head and eliminated the center mount.. This was part of going to a 6 gallon tank.

You can not install a 96 up crank in a 88 motor without a bit of work. The primary side of the crank has different splines so the rotor and compensator would have to change. The late rotor could work. You might get away with removing the comp and using a solid sprocket but the later comp won't work due to different chain spacing.

Thanks, basically what i meant was that he would have to install a stroked crank to obtain 103"
