Have a buddy looking to buy a 2013 or 2014 SG. I can't find any recent posts comparing the two. Thoughts? Both are basically stock with similar miles. 2013 is about $2K less.
Both get the job done very well. It's probably worth the 2K more to get the '14...it's also a generation newer and should hold value a little better...if that's important to ya...
The Rushmore bikes are a better buy as stated above. The cam change in the HO motor is well worth it as is the beefed up front. The Rushmore front faring with the vent also reduces buffeting behind the fairing quite a bit.
The power of the 14 is maybe a little noticeable, but not enough for to pay $2000 more.
The front end is slightly noticeably better, but on the SG, it's not a big deal untill you add tourpack, lower fairings and a passenger. Then you will notice the advantage.
For me (and this is my opinion) the real advantage of the 14 SG is the vented fairing and new style saddlebags. The coolness of the SG is the lower windshield. But the coolness quickly melts away as the wind beats you up. The faster you go (and we all like to go fast on our SG), the more you feel like your in a boxing ring with Mohamed Ali. The new vented fairing reduces that punishment about 30 percent.
The other very noticeable change that make paying more for a 14 worth it, is the new saddlebags. Basically the old bags required two hands to open and close the lids. The new system only requires one. You wouldn't think that is a big deal, but using two hands requires putting down your groceries on the ground while fiddling with the saddlebags. And, the old bag not only require two hands to open, but to insure the flimsy hardware isn't bent or broken. The new lids are easy to use and very robust.
So yes, I think the fairing and saddlebags alone make the 14 SG worth $2000 more. The better front suspension, cams and info-center are a bonus
Thanks everyone. These are all the reasons I was thinking and thanks beary for the info on the vented fairing and the difference it makes over the non-vented. I ride a 2016 Ultra Limited and agree that makes a difference.
Have your buddy go with the 2014, they did get it right 1st time out. There are usually bugs in new Models, but not on this one. Worth a little extra and here is a great tool for shopping : https://www.chopperexchange.com/Sear...al/Motorcycles
