I don't have a problem lining everything up. I have a problem with the poor design of the windshield retention system on the '07 models. Those two spring releases that are supposed to lock the windshield in place do absolutely nothing. They are way too loose. Even if you try tobend them to force them to snap into place, they do not.
Aha...the plot thickens......so it's really the springs you have the problem with?
Try this. Take the windshield off and simply bend the springs down enough so that when the shield is on they need only a wee push from you to sit right tight against the top grommet instead of flailiing around uselessly. Now the windshield can't pop forward unless you pull up on those dang springs that now do something.

That is an excellent suggestion! However, I already tried this and the metal springs do not really keep their shape when you bend them. They do lower but the tension is not tight at all. It is just a really poor design.

It's ok - the wind pressure holds it in place!
Mine are the same way on the 04 - I looked at it with amazement when first got the bike, determined it had to be the force from the wind that assists in keeping it in place. IMHO.
Has anyone just taken those springs with the metal pull things off. Mine do nothing on the bike as well. I can pull the windshield off with no problem and the force of the wind will keep it in place. One of the metal pull things constantly vibrates and drives me nuts. Any reasons not to remove it?
