I had thunderheaders on my '05 road king and wanted a quieter exhaust, especially in the morning. I just put a pair of SE touring mufflers #64985-07 on and now it's too quiet. I looked into the outlet of the muffler and saw a couple of baffles inside. Has anyone had ant experience making these a little louder?
I have the same SE slip ons and after I removed the slip ons, I removed the two screws holding the baffles in and had to drive the baffles out. Once I had the baffles outI removed the fiberglass wrap and drilled some additional holes where the baffle is bent to deflect the exhaust into the area where the fiberglass wrap was. I was looking for a deep rumbling sound and this mod did not obtain the sound I was looking for. It is louder but not too much. I may replace the SEs with Rush slip ons with the 2 inch baffles.
I have the same mufflers. I thought they were too quiet also. At about 900-1000 miles on them, they started getting quite a bit louder. A much better low end rumble and more sound when getting on it. You may want to wait 'till you get some miles on them before doing anything. The change was significant.
Try the Supertrapp SE performance slipons. Part # 128-65115
These pipes have a real nice sound to them after they break in. I doubt if you will ever get the sound that you want out of the SE touring mufflers

Same experience here - just hit 900 on the SE's and it is definatley deeper. Not going to match the Rush 2.0, but I think I will be satisfied. Ride safe!
Hey guys, I've got the stock RK pipes on mine, and it's way too quiet. Do the stock pipes have a removable baffle in there? And if so, do I have to remap if I take them out. Is there a cheap trick to getting these puppies sounding like a real hog?
