That sucks. Sometimes life just does this ****. I feel your pain. At least it's just more mechanical problems that can be fixed and not something worse.
I am a dumbass for not catching it while I had the engine out. I guess I was so focused on getting it all back together I did not even look at the chain or the sprockets.
As exciting 117cu in sounds, if you are trying to keep costs down, just re-use your top end with new rings and gaskets. Get some small block chevy lifters - they live forever and are cheap. But you should sleeve the block. It sucks that you can't just replace lifter blocks like older bikes. Saved HD a few bucks, but costs you hundreds. Good luck whatever you decide.
Your comment reminded of a video I just saw not to long ago. S&S propaganda or does it hold some truth?
hey Paul Girard I see that you are new to the forum, and your effort is certainly appreciated, but this thread got started almost a year ago and the engine has been repaired quite well since then. The problem Angryman is having now is wore out final drive chain and sprocket. apparently Angryman just cant win for loosing

No I cant seem to win. Happy to say that I got the bike swapped back over to pulleys and belt about a week ago. Not a whole lot of miles in that time as it rained almost every day since. Yesterday some buddy's and I went on the 2 Wheels for Heroes ride. Completed the ride with no issues. Told the wife recently that I hope nothing else happens as all I have left to rebuild is the front end and the trans.

Was just rereading this thread and thought I would give an update. Rode 4500 or so trouble free miles last summer after the rebuild. I would have to check the odo to give an exact number but was close to that. Recently I have taken the gas tank off while I do some stereo upgrades and the quick connect started pouring fuel out at a good clip. Last spring when I had issues during the rebuild with the original leaking I had installed a Drag Specialties replacement. Guess I need to replace the o-rings. I hope that it does not turn into a yearly thing.
