When I watch the babes on the HGTV the wife insists to watch, I notice how so many colors and fads come and go. Black is still in, but chrome never left. To each their own.
Some people like to be different. Part of that was expressed in blacking out their bikes. It won't be very different to get a mass produce blacked out machine in about a year. The "market" will have been filled and there will be two or three year old brand new factory blacked out machines gathering dust in the backs of many show rooms in a couple of years.
Harley and Jeep have something in common. Harleys are iconic, just as the basic, same for 70 years Jeep. Put tail fins on a Jeep, and it wouldn't be a Jeep any more. Take the chrome off of a Harley, same problem. There are a few who take off the passing lights and crash bars and black out the rest for the minimal look, fine for them. Now the factory is doing it and charging MORE for less equipment. Your money, your choice, but not for me. Maybe when they put tail fins on a Jeep, I'll change my mind about a blacked out Harley.
If I was in the market for a new bike, a black on black 18 RoadKing would be sitting in the garage beside my RGU. New bars and mufflers and it would be good to go.
