When I purchased my '16 RGU I was eventually going to black it all out. When I was figuring all the parts needed and adding it all up, I stopped at around $4,000. Then the '18 RGS came out and remember shaking my head and saying "Jeez, guess I'm going to try and trade up". Well here I'm today with the bike the way I always wanted.
When people first started blacking out their bikes I found them interesting and liked some of the ones that were done well. Since it's caught on so much they are nothing special anymore.
My opinion of the factory bikes is that the MoCo is coming late to a fad that will probably play out before too long.
If HD wants their sales to improve they need to be innovators and leaders, mot Johnny come latelys.
Harley was late to the blacked out bike scene. However I don't think that's a "fad" that's going to "playout" anytime soon if ever. I didn't like the black out look at first. I thought Harleys were meant to have shiny paint and chrome. That look grew on me and I can appreciate it. Even considering a 18 RGS. I think Harley dropped the ball though by not offering Specials in both the black out look and the chrome look.
I like the look, but part of the appeal was changing out the parts myself. For me buying one all blacked out would be less appealing as I wouldn't get to personalize it, guess I could add some chrome???
