Default Info on "from the knee down chaps"

During the RFTW a few months ago I met a person who had leather leg protectors that started just above the knee and went down to their boots. Does anyone else know where they came from? Who makes them is what I'd like to know about.

They are called, gaiters. I got mine from Leatherlegs I believe. They are easier to store than chaps but obviously don't help the thighs. I wear them once the temps are in the 50's or doing lots of highway evev in the 60's. I do like and recommend them.

More commonly called half-chaps. My riding GF has some custom made ones from this place http://www.acehighleathers.com/motor...ps/half-chaps/

You can get 'em with zipper, velcro, or snap closures. A bit pricey from that link, but they custom make them with whatever you want on them, and they take actual leg measurements.

Bikers refer to them as half chaps, and you can try Fox Creek Leather:

I had my half chaps made for me here where I live, but I noticed that Fox Creek makes and sells them. I recently received a leather jacket that I ordered from them, and have to say that it's one of the finest leather jackets I've ever seen (as I'd heard on this forum on more than one occasion). I'd recommend them for half chaps if you like their style. The quality will be tough to beat.

Usually, "half-chaps" are buttoned, zippers and velcro'd on the side. Gaiters zip in the back.I chose the zipper in the back, hence gaiters, to keep any wind/moisture out. You can search "motorcycle gaiters half chaps" and get a ton of sites. You will probably spend at least $50 and can easily spend $200.....

That is definitely NOT the point. They're good for keeping jeans from flapping around on the calf muscle, holding down jeans if one doesn't like using the clips (or whatever they're called) attaching jeans to boots, keeping bugs from splattering on lower jeans, etc.

Admittedly, I don't use mine very often, but they do serve a purpose when it's too warm for chaps or leather pants, and I want a little protection from the wind/bugs for the shins, and at the same time keep my pants from beating on my calve muscles. I'll use them when I'm going for a really long day ride and don't need or want anything higher to insulate or protect my legs.

If you are not married to the idea of leather, here's an alternate option:
