1000-2500 is lugging it. I may putt around a little 1500-1800 from time to time but realistic output is 2000 and above; and most dyno charts won't show you much below 2500 or so. By the time you let the clutch out on a HD your are almost at 2000 revs as it is. My concern would be having the crank scissor and blow the oil pump etc... if you run the revs that low and routinely roll on to accelerate from there. Just my $.02. The bigger you go with displacement and bigger cams, the harder it is going to be to run/ride something that low in the revs.
<<<Hey smat 45, how much did that 124 set you back?>>>
Yikes! Hope my ol lady doesn't read this...
I guess w/head work, big bore kit and crank work around $3600 or so...
I already had the cam chest parts...oil pump, plate, push rods and lifters...
Don't forget the extra stuff needed...some is optional
Bigger TB
Injectors
Rockers and stands
Cams
Gaskets
Oil cooler w/fans
Cooling fans
Ohlins front and back
Comp delete/direct drive
Chain conversion
Swing arm bushings
Bagger brace
Clutch
Dang! This fun adds up fast! Probably like another 5K or so...
Even though I said earlier I wish I had done this to begin with...I'm happy I went this route step by step. It got me familiar with every part of my bike and allowed me to acclimate to the changes.
I don't know if that helps or not...?
Start w/the cams and see where that takes you...like the OP said...bang for the buck you can't beat it and I agree!
