I'm thinking of starting with this and am curious about the need to change stock headers. I've gotten conflicting answers fromHD techs. I'm planning on a better air cleaner and better slip ons and a tune. If I'll notice a significant difference with changing the headers, I will, but if not, I'll spend the cash on chrome and more chrome. I appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Remove the cat and the bike will run more lean and be louder.... add the new slips ons and you'll be even louder. Tune definitely will be needed if removing cat. You can either remove the one on your existing header or buy a new exhaust system that is tuned.... How much you want to spend?

well, here's a ton of chrome I want to add that will cost around $2k. If I can get a little more torque and hp for around $1200 or so. Maybe better to put more in the engine and wait on the chrome.
Keep your headers, not cats in those, free flowing slip ons, cams, air cleaner, jets if carved, tuner if Fuel injection. Andrews 26 cams are good for 88 CI

thanks. Leaning towards TAB slip ons with 2 3/4 baffles and an S&S stealth air cleaner and a tune.ive also read good things on those cams. It is fuel injected.
I have referred to it as the stage 1.5. Did my 17 RGS with RC headers, slips, SE breather and tuner. Heat is all but gone and loving the way the bike performs even more so that stock, which is saying a lot. Never had a Harley, no matter how modestly built (understatement) that would lift the front wheel before until this one.
