Default denim paint question

hi all. haven't posted in a long time. just picked up a '17 flhtkl in char/blk denim. my question is, does anyone use a cover on their denim bike? mine gets parked in a gravel lot at work and the dust from the trailer yard is awful. i was wondering if the cover would scratch or rub the paint. --thx

I wouldn’t think so. I have a cover that I use on trips and it’s never been an issue, but then again that’s not what I would call extensive use.

If the bike is dusty under the cover and the wind gets to flapping that cover, you will certainly get some paint damage. If you gotta take your bike to work, don't sweat the dust, just clean it up when you get home or get a chance.

thanks all. thats kinda what i was thinking. i always covered my heritage there, but that had normal paint. the grey gravel dust mixed with the morning dew makes a real mess on the bike! my old cover was real heavy and had thick elastic around the bottom that i'm worried would scratch the soft finish on the denim. maybe i'll look for a lighter duty cover.

The denim isn't any different in that regard. Mine sits under a quality dowco cover when it is put up for the winter.

contrary to some opinion, the denim finish is not any 'softer' than any other finish. the only difference is that there is a matte finish in the clearcoat. yes, it does have a clearcoat on it.

My '17 black denim RGS is covered outdoors 98% of the time with zero issues resulting. The same can be said about my '12 black denim SG before that.
