Default Heated grips not staying on

I have a 2015 FLHTK and today I used my heated grips which I haven't used in a while and they started to warm up and then stopped. When I turned the bike off and then when we started back up they did the same thing got warm for about 5 minutes and stopped again. Any Ideas why?

no idea but...i will follow your progress as i am also having problems with my grips.... mine are warm on all settings... no diff between 1 or 6 and never get hot anymore.... just yesterday at the dealer for tires i was told it is most likely the left grip only where the t-stat and contacts are located... problem is they could not give me an estimate only to tell me fairly big job to replace... i dont get it... seems like a pull off and plug in...guess it plugs in behind the inner fairing somewhere... hope u get to the bottom of your deal...i be watchin

My heated grips turn off if I change the channel on my stereo with the thumb switch. They don't go back on unless I turn the bike off. Otherwise they are great and will cook your hands on high. 2011 Electra Glide Limited.

Mine would cut out if set above 3. trying lowering your temp below 3 and see if they come back on. They ended up replacing mine but Moco only wanted to change the left grip. Fought with them and they did replace both. new grips are like 180. not hard to replace. if you goto the parts page you will find the instructions

Default Grips

I just had the same issues on my 2013 FLHTK. I just went through replacing my heated grips with non-heated grips. Down here in Gulfport, i don't need them. The process is fairly easy so the dealer was lying to you...big shock. Its pretty simple. The heated grips are wired through the handlebars so dont just yank on left grip and expect it to come off, remove the fairing and un-do the wire first. Then gently work it out of the handlebar. The right grip isn't wired, just a plug into the attached piece. Took me an hour...not that big of a job at all.

Please forgive what may be an obvious question. How did you rethread the wires? Attach a string to pull them back through?

I didn't re-thread the wires, I replaced with non heated grips. If I would have then yes that's exactly what I would have done. I would've attached the string previously and have it ready because that plug once you take off the fairing is very easy to lose, that's what took me the longest was finding the right wire.
