Hip replacement
Just hadmy left hipreplaced 7/18, I spent right at 52 hours in the hospital. Them narcotics have me scratching like a monkey with the mange. I am up and walking/floating after 3 days with crutches and will be going to the cane on the 25th. My hip was so F&%ked up the doctor said I was already in less pain than when they rolled me into surgery! Once he got in there and seen the condition he said I should have done it 10 years ago. WellI need to go find a big tree to scratch my back with.
I just returned home from spending 2 weeks taking care of my 24 year old daughter, who had a hip replacement due to her arthritis. She is up walking easily with a walker and will begin using a cane in a couple of days. She feels wonderful. I missed riding my bike, but it was funtaking care of my baby girl again.
I had both of mine replaced in the last 9 months. I was ready to sell my Road King before I got them replaced. ( too much pain to ride ). I no longer have pain & should have done it earlier. I would advise getting a younger ( but experienced ) Dr, the older Drs seem to stay with old ways.
Glad to hear all this, been kind worried about and riding afterTHR.finally set mine upYesterday for8-28for right, hip no cartalage left.
Have not rode this year . Bought new 07 ultra last aug. it's killing me to just look at it.

If the good Lord takes me, Let it be!! I had to run all of the traps before they would let me do the surgery. I had a heart cath done the 16th before the hip surgery on the 18th. Leg has started to swell and it kinda freaked me out! Called the saw-bone and he said that is what the pain pills are for! To make me forget about the leg![sm=badbadbad.gif]

The hip replacement isn't as bad as a knee. Had my left knee done in Feb. but had complications. Blood clot in the lung and heart arrythmia. Could have stroked out or worse. Didn't get enough physical therapy right away, plus I had three surgeries prior so I had lots of scar tissue to work through. Had to go under anesthesia again in May to break scar tissue. Have had aggressve therapy ever since and have been doing pretty good. Just starting to really get back in the saddle. Ask as many questions prior to surgery as you can. Know exactly what you are in for, complication possibilities, etc. By the way, my knee doesn't hurt anymore!
I had my right hip joint replaced one week ago 1-9-08, I'm just in the earliest stages of mending. I'm told by docs that my type of total joint replacement will keep me on the walker with almost no bearing weight on my new hip for six weeks. Nevertheless it feels fairly good now all things considered, but I don't expect to be riding my Electra Glide any time soon. I'll post again on my progress in six or eight weeks. Meantime, ride safely you all.
