Put a new adapter plate on. They're pretty cheap.

I agree with the thread adapter. I've never had a problem with it on a Harley but I did have one loosen up on a smaller engine. The filter was loosening up and leaking until I tightened it up. With the filter off make sure you can't turn it by hand. If you can turn it tighten it up and then try it with a new filter. You could also spin it out and clean the threads and try some Loctite.

1st and only post. Oil filter won't stay on even with red loctite? Who the hell would use loctite on an oil filter? Oh yea, Trolls do.

Make sure you rub a little oil on the rubber gasket that will help it seal; and come off. I have been a mechanic all my life and have never seen a filter back off, more the opposite when you go to take them off the gasket has swelled from heat and are harder to take off.
