K&N filter with safety wire through the nut. It won't back off then.

What color filter are you using? Red locktite works best on red parts. I’d try painting the filter before you start replacing things.

the earlier adapters up until mid 2013 did come loose once in awhile. leaked between the engine case and the adapter, not the filter. if this is the case you can take a bolt (i think it was a 7/16 ) and double nut it and then tighten it up. also the little plugs that are in the earlier adapters are known for leaking to. if you buy a new adapter be sure and get the mid 13 and newer one, much better design.
