Just an update and thanks for all the excellent info posted here. I went to my Audiologist and they estimated $250 for an impression and to make custom earplugs, I owe them a few favors but not $250 worth of favors so I passed. After reading everything here I ordered a set of the Ear Peace brand from Amazon, about $23 including tax. I went for a 100 mile ride today and they are great, night and day difference over the foamies. They fit very comfortable, no pressure on the inner ear at all. They blocked out pretty much all the mechanical noise EXCEPT the low rumble of the stock pipes. I didn't hear the clunk of the shifts or any lower engine noise and my only change was to raise up the stereo volume 2 clicks. Even when I stopped at a restaurant I didn't remove them and I could hear people talking just fine. And they do have a somewhat calming affect, I can't explain it but I felt much more relaxed during and after the ride. I'll be ordering another set as I can't see myself riding without them from here on forward...thanks again to all!
I went to the Earpeace website and I see they have motorcycle ear plugs on sale for $14 and you can get 2 sets for $26. Not sure what you got and if they are any different. Im getting tired of playing the ear plug game and what to find something I can live with.

That's exactly what I noticed! Riding was just...nicer. Hard to explain, but getting rid of the majority of that constant background noise really was calming.

I got the musician ones as the reviews on them were good, I think I paid $20 plus $3 shipping. I see on their site both the musician and the riding ones are cheaper, I guess they're on sale. I'm ordering another set or two from them now...thanks!

I've had to replace a pair that fell off of the fairing after a lunch stop. I forgot to put them back in before leaving.
Now: when I leave the house, the canister always goes into my pocket.
While I'm out, when I take the plugs out of my ears, they go straight into the canister, and back into my pocket
I still forget to put them back in occasionally, but I haven't lost anymore.

No problem. Im going to try out the riding ones and see how they are.

Glad you found something you like!
Yes, I was trying to focus on the noise thing, it was hard to tell if there was less wind noise because you still get buffeted around by it so you don't really know if your hearing the noise or "feeling" the noise if you know what I mean. But the engine/transmission noise was definitely less and you could still hear the nice rumble from the pipes. And 2 clicks of volume on the boom (through the helmet headset) was negligible. Thank you...
I've gotten used to riding with them, and you are right, at first it is difficult to tell how effective they really are. But what I have found is, when I forget to put them back on, I remember at about 50mph. After you are used to it, it is noticeable when you forget to put them in.
I have one ear that's really sensitive to loud noise and also can't hear anything in a room with lots of ambient noise or many conversations. I started carrying the Ear Peace earplugs with me and I put one in when I need to. I can say they are the most comfortable earplugs I've ever used, and since they don't stick out of the ear, I can use them in my FF helmet. I can wear them for hours comfortably.
I have a pair of the "Moto" ones and the "Musician" ones; the only difference I can tell is the color: the Moto are dark grey and the musicians are clear. they both have changeable filters depending on how much sound you want to cut out.
