What I put together from unused parts in my tool box.

I got an old metric socket that was 1/2 inch long, and an old Allen Bolt was that about a
1/2 longer than the original bolt. Put it all together, now I have a longer toe shifter that
comes out far enough to work well with my extended footboards, cost $O.oo

There are all kinds of recommendations regarding moving the shifter away from the floorboard, but I think the OP is asking specifically about increasing the length of the shifter PEG.

If that is the case, I had Battistini shifter arms, pegs, etc., on my last bike, but if you look just at the PEG, you will see it is long, stretches pretty far away from the bike, and you will not have to shift pigeon toed any longer!

I took off the heel shifter and then added a spacer to move the toe shifter out to the heel shifter location.

a few years back there was a guy on here who was machining the spacers. he quit doing it, but I got one of the last ones that he made (or sold anyway). I've kept that spacer each time that I've sold my bike.

I hear ya...I hadn't seen any until I stumbled across one made by LA Choppers at my local dealer...exactly what I needed...

I moved my footboards out, which left the toe shifter too short and I was shifting pigeon-toed. I took the heel shifter, which I didn't particularly like, off and moved the toe shifter out, problem solved. I got a spring-loaded spacer for the shifter shaft and everything's good. I think I got that spacer from Dennis Kirk, but I'm not positive.

Thanks for the replies. Saw several options here. One peg was 3.5 long which may work. I will also look into spacing the boards out more.

Drag Specialties makes one, I have a bad left foot, and can't even touch a stock peg.

Dang! And I though I was cheap. I spent about $12.00 on mine. (Post #8 in this thread.) Your idea is great, though. I might swap mine out and do something similar, but instead of a socket I'll look for a chunk of metal tubing and polish it up.

Speaking of cheap, my ability to make inexpensive/free mods to my bike is legendary among my riding friends. On an earlier bike I had an aftermarket tour pack. It wasn't a clone of the HD tour pack...it was completely different. Anyway, the lock on it broke. The manufacturer wanted something like $40.00 for a new lock. The tour pack cost me less that $200.00! I bought a hasp and a padlock at Ace Hardward for about $15.00 and installed that. It wasn't aesthetically pleasing (read: ugly!), but it worked...and it was cheap.
