got it last week and seems ok. have bairly notice a little "bounce" in idle from 0.9 to 1 rpm. dealer said everyone so far has liked and its free and free to remove so why not? Go for it.
I asked my dealer if they had done the download yet. He said, no. He didn't think it was a good idea. Just his opinion. I would like to try it. But didn't want to be the 1st in the area. However since it's free and can be changed back for free, I may go ahead. It gets pretty hot here in Texas.
I had read here on the forums about it, and then checked it out in the magazine, and then called Harley to ask if they thought it would work on the 88. (they get hot too)
They did say that theroretically it would work with the 88 also. And my local dealer said they would turn it on for free, but it would cost to remove it.
Well after talking with one of the reps, and them explaining the way it works, Never mind.
It ONLY shuts down the rear cyclinder when the bike is NOT MOVING and the rear cylinder has reached a set temperature. This normally only occurs in Parade Style Riding, or extended idling. In normal stop and go traffic, its not even going to kick in as the bike doesn't stop long enough for it to engage.
He explained it is more for Police Bikes that sit and idle for long periods, and patrol bikes that also sit for long periods.
He did say that it may be good for rallys were you are sitting more than riding trying to get down the main boulevards.
SteelCityScooter, The way you explained the operation of the shutdown is how I thought it would work also. I ride mostly in rural areasand very seldom in heavy traffic causing delays. It would not benefit me very often, however, it would probably be good in those rare situations when you do get stuck in stalled traffic.
Well, think I will try it. called my dealer - they told me to stop by one day when I was out for a ride and they would download it while I wait. Did say the removal is free if I do not like it so there is nothing to lose.
Rick- Please post back your impressions of the download after you get it. I'm very interested in it but am waiting for more feedback from those in the know...
I will let you know how it goes. Second thought is to just bite the bullet for a SERT. Have the SE Fueler, may just go ahead with the SERT or other option instead. Will let you know how it goes.
