Default Anyone take their dog on the bike?

This is a serious question - not trying to be stupid here but... I have a dog friendly workplace and I'd like to bring my dog. But I also get most of my motorcycle time in during my commute. I don't want to give up either. Is there a way that guys know about to carry a dog (about 30 lbs) on the bike to work?

Depends on the bike and/or dog. I have seen motorcycle specific dog crates, but haven't used one. I too considered it, but then decided against it because I don't want my dog to think he needs to go with me every time I fire up the bike.

I have with my old Buddy ( he passed away last year) and will be with my new pup. I'm actually in process of building a tow behind trailer that looks just like an old 1970's Shasta canned ham. Will have windows and all.

pic of my old setup which was only used locally.

Pic of soon to be setup (work in progress) because we will be doing some major touring soon

Yeah, my dog likes to watch me work on my bikes, but doesn't seem to want to ride with me.....

I'd probably need a special side car to bring him with me....

Given the sensitivity of a dog's nose and ears, is it really cool to tow it 6" behind a 100 decibel exhaust pipe? Or in a booming Tour-pak?

I know how much dogs love to stick their heads out of a car into the wind and so on, but I'm sorry to say but I'm not a great fan of this fad on a bike.

There was a famous case of a guy in BC who actually trained his cat to ride on his bike. The end of it is, they both got killed in a head on collision.

They really aren't designed for collisions greater than, say, 15 mph, you cannot protect them and you cannot guaranty how they are going to act in traffic if they get spooked, fall off etc.

Sorry to poop on the party, but I'd say find a better way to impress the women in the office by just offering them rides. Humans can calculate the risks, make decision, take responsibility, animals cant. The worst case was a guy in Brazil who looks like he Velcros his cat to tank, there's another guy in the States who does similar to his helmet, it might have been sort of cool/funny the first time it was done but now it just looks like a silly ego trip to me.

You'll regret it big time if it goes wrong.

To be honest, I have to agree with this point of view....

The only person I've met in recent times who does has a small dog, a Jack Russell terrier, which he puts in an aftermarket top-box. The dog can pop it's head out of a suitable hole in the lid as and when it wants, but can't get its shoulders out. The bike is also a small one with a relatively quiet stock exhaust. I can't quite imagine a 30 pound dog, but one of the larger aftermarket top-boxes might do the trick, with a suitable hole in the lid.

I visited Daytona many years ago and one rider had carpet secured to his Glide's gas tank, with a small terrier type dog simply sitting in front of him on the tank.
