Question 2003 FLTR Audio Control

Just got a 2003 FLTR. The audio doesn't turn up(not sure about down since cant hear it). The bike does not have headset setups, but has the speaker control switch, it does not light up when in the down position like the cruise or accessory switch.
Trying to figure out where I should start looking first. I did go ahead and buy the 71642-08 audio switch as someone had it brand new for $27 shipped. But since the light does not come on the speaker switch, I'm not sure if it starts there or not.

The switch on my ultra doesn't light up. Not sure if yours should or not.
Does the radio come on and switch inputs?
Does it have audio level bars/ indicators? Do they incresse/decrease with volume control?
Before I bought anything I'd do some troubleshooting. Pull the outer faring and use a test speaker at the back of the radio to find out if the radio is even outputting to the speakers. Then keep moving towards the speakers testing at each connection until you lose audio.
I'd think the most likely suspects would be either the radio, the switch you asked about or some wiring defect somewhere and both speakers being bad bringing up the rear.
Good luck.

radio is on/off and switches modes am/fm/aux etc with the right handler bar switches.

I do not get audio level bars on display when trying to use the switch.

Can you adjust the volume with the soft key on the radio?

On my 2013 here is how they work. On your 2003, I don't know if they're the same. Check your owner's manual if they're different.

The 5/Left, Up, Down, and Right Arrow soft keys are used for radio band frequency tuning, Bass and Treble mixing, Fader and Volume. They are also used to scroll and highlight a selection in a list. For an Advanced Audio System accessory module, the arrow keys are active when arrows appear in the display.

If you don't have the owner's manual, go to this link and enter your VIN #. Hopefully the owner's manual for this year is online.

Radios changed between 06 and 07 and again between 13 and 14.
06 and older were made by a company called, I think, Radio Sound.
06-13 were made by Harmon Kardon.
