Default Radio speaker problem

I just got back from a week in Maine. beautiful state but a wet one. days of heavy rain. on my last day (dry) my speakers began cutting out. I have my speaker switch in the middle position.Randomly, sound would cut out, i would switch down to ths speaker position (light on) souynd would come back. A few minutes later it would cut out again and i would return switch to middle position and tunes again. this went on for about 200 miles. I turned radio off for about 20 min. and turned back on again and had sound, for about 5 min. this was at random. random times, sometimes smooth road, sometimes rough. I thought maby the switch got wet. Any ideas on where to start looking? Thanks in advance for any advice

Try disconnecting the switch and by passing it by running temporary wires directly to the speakers. If it does not cut out then it is the switch, if it does cut out it is probably the radio.
There is no audio going to that switch. It switches the DSP in the radio, sending the output to the speakers or headset...or a combination of both.

If the icon on the faceplate is changing with the speaker switch, the switch is fine and you may have gotten liquid to the DSP or one of the processors.

The speakers didn't start cutting out until 300it miles of dry weather. The icon on the faceplate is changing with switch position. Im pulling outer fairing tomorrow and will check connections for signs of water .no problems when raining, it was after I was in dry conditions. Thats why I thought it might have been a switch or a connection. Never thought about radio shorting out.

Trucker, you didn't say what kind of bike you had. I've ridden through more rain than I care to talk about and never had radio problems.
My '06 EGC started having problems with the HK (65K on the bike). Sent it to Iron Cross Audio and they fixed the vibration damage. When you pull the faring off check the brackets to see if their busted causing extra vibration.

Pulled fiaring off last night. Lots of sandy dirt on top of radio. Looks like lots of water / road spray came in from windshield. Stickers on top of radio and right speaker are not sticking anymore. Bottom of radio looks like it just came out of the box. Brackets are fine. I'm going toclean it up. Looks like it got wet. I'll let it dry out more and see what happens. Oh yeah, its an 09 ultra with stock hk radio. Thanks
