Default Black ceramic exhaust cleaning

so not too long ago I made the mistake of riding my bike with insulated ski pants thinking they would hold up to the heat well. unfortunately they didn't and I have the burnt up residue that the pants have left behind. before I remove the exhaust and have it sand blasted and ceramic coated does anyone have any tried and true methods of removing similar contaminants from an exhaust of this substrate and finish . i ran a search that returned lots of results for cleaning chrome exhausts with plastic on it aswell as results for cleaning black ceramic exhausts of oil spots but nothing that i felt properly discribed this issue.

The company applying the ceramic should have the technology to deal with that. ..make it their problem. Otherwise, as long as you're coating it anyway, soda blast it.

You might want to check out a process called Jet Hot.

my intention was to see if someone had any do it yourself tips before I paid someone to do it for me

Even though it's typically used on chrome I'd still try spray on OVEN CLEANER. Afterall, oven interiors are also coated/enameled and oven cleaner never damages those interiors. Mask off the areas around the area and spray it on COLD......let it work and then wipe it off.....you've got nothing to lose at this point. Report back as others may want to know.

sorry if i didn't make myself clear in any of my prior posts. my intention is to find a do it yourself remedy (such as the previously mentioned oven cleaner) that would make it so that i can avoid blasting and re-coating the exhaust. the goal if possible is to just clean it myself and not spend the money to re-coat.

that being said does anyone recommend a particular brand of oven cleaner?

Ive had good results cleaning melted plastic and rubber from chrome using a razor blade. Not sure about ceramic coating. Good luck.

I would also call V&H for ideas.

I might caution you about using caustic chemicals on a painted surface. OP has black pipes but it's not clear if it' paint or ceramic. If paint, chemicals will remove or mar. I I've had Easy Off screw up chrome.

going to pick up some easy off on the way home lets see how it goes. I hate the volatility of matte finishes. Im debating painting my tank and fenders gloss black as they are matte now so that i can more easily clean and care for them. that or wrap them in stealth expel paint protection film. the exhaust is just a nightmare
