looked at my buddies '07 linkage .. and man the rubber around the ball-joints were all cracked as hell. Looked like it had been on his bike for 5yrs out in the sun and rain.
I bought my '07 about a week after he bought his .... and mine still 'looks' brand new. Granted that don't mean squat as you never know when it'll go on ya. I certainly plan on buying one to take with me to Sturgis. I might just get one of the 'upgraded' linkages. They have the skulls/flame/etc. ones for about $150 but just the plain chrome one is about $90ish I think... and at least that does have the heim joint as smknflms mentioned. (Course I'm kinda tryin to save my pennies for sturgis .... so might just pick up a $20 instead for insurance and save the additiona $$$ for fun in August.)
That was just the devil trying to stop you from hearing the word...I hope you made it.
Made it to Church and heard a good message. Bought the custon shield one yesterday with the differnt hook up and hopefully it don't happen again. Now I am worried about the one on the deluxe now.
Just a note from experience... Had the fastener bolt break on the shift arm/ lever from the transmission output (between the tranny and the inner primary case). The bolt holds the lever on the splined shaft. Can't reach that bad boy with anything when it's busted, and to repair it requires pulling the inner primary case. It's just thick enough that even if you get the shift arm to move, it just hits the primary case enough to prevent it coming off. If/ when I everhave the primary case off, tempted to shave thebase of the leverdown on it enough to get it out without going through all the hassle.
Anybody ever have that problem? It was a bitch, I was out on the road and couldn't shift out of first gear, had to ride it like that for several miles to a dealer ($190). Can't believe I'm the only one, andit looks like the clearance is the same on my 2007 FLHTC.
Not that it will do any good, but last time I talked to HD SERVICE, I asked the rep if they knew about this problem, and he said NO but that he would relay this info to the head of the department. Maybe if enough people call and complain, something might get resolved.
Let's see now........................
$21,000.00 dollars gets you:
A voltage regulater relay recall,
Broken shifter linkage joints,
Problems with the Harmon/Kardon radio,
Fuel injector problems,
Broken motor mounts (bad design)
Faulty fork locks,
who knows what else is headed our way.
I have owned ALL Harleys since I started riding (1972) and I see how much the quality has been slipping away.
