Had my shifter linkage break last Sunday. Used some tie wraps and got it home. I went to the dealer on Monday and asked if they would change it out as it was still under warranty. Nope, no way. The only mechanic on duty was out to lunch. Asked if they would just give it to me and I would change it (10 min job on a bad day). Nope not even when I told them they could still charge Harley the labor, but they did say I could have an appointment the next week.
End result is I bought the new linkage, replaced it in less then 10 minutes, and gave the MOCO a call. After bitching some, they are going to send me a check for the cost of the linkage. At least they stepped up to the plate.
It really pisses me off to hear about dealerships that won't take ten minutes to get you up and running when you have a small problem like a shift linkage replacement, but yet, they want you to come to their shop and spend all of your money on accessories and such. I drive 30-40 miles out of my way to ABC Harley in Waterford[sm=smiley20.gif] to get excellent service. The sad thing is, I have two HD dealerships in my area. Detroit HD[sm=smiley21.gif] and Wolverine Harley[sm=confused06.gif]. One is three miles away and the other is about eleven miles away.
Mine broke on I40 outside Fort Smith. Pulled into Fort Smith dealer and they had me back on the road in less than 30 minutes. 06 Ultra. They said its a common problem on 06 and 07 touring
