That little (dreaded/hated) green connector has been the "death" of many. I know it can be done but it's very fragile and needs the hands of a surgeon to deal with. Plus it's size takes up much needed space when wiring internally and makes the threading of all the right hand switch control wires plus the twist sensor wires difficult. Much easier with straight wires (no connector).

Too many have tried using the stock one, thought everything went well and then when it's all back together, something doesn't work & they get error codes. Then you get to do the job all over again...just not worth it.

I could see that being a problem. Just curious. Can it be removed?

Most likely but not sure why you'd want to. You would just need to de-pin (unassemble) it and remove the connector from the end (like it is in the pic from the Harley site) in order to pull it through. You'd probably want to pull all the wires out at the same time as I don't think you'd be able to push it back through with all the other right hand switch control wires in there.

I guess I am wondering if it could be removed completely from the harness and just solder connections in place of plug. If that makes sense. Would love to save $100 if possible. Not afraid of a little extra work.

I suppose you could. Just want to be careful that the solder joints aren't too bulky. Remember...you have 12 wires from the right switch control, plus these twist sensor wires that all have to fit and be pulled through the bars if wiring internally. It's pretty tight...that's why it's nice to get rid of the green plug. Also...your soldered wires have to go around some tight bends in the bars. For me it was just easier with the new one...plus you won't have to worry about the solder joints being good or coming apart down the road. Whatever you're comfortable with.

Thanks for clearing that up. This time around I am just going to change bars and use stock cables and wires ran externally. Gotta save up for the extensions to wire internally. Also gonna save for stainless braided lines. Rough time of year for money but need something to help my back and hand going numb while riding with stock handlebars. Next winter I will make everything pretty. Just need comfort for now.

I totally get it...there's lots of things I want to do but "one thing at a time".

Go for it! My back & wrists feel much better now. Good Luck!
