I am researching 107" kits. Opinions: Which kit is the best for an 08 bagger?
I have the VH FuelPak =, true duals and Woods 555 cams. Happy so far but want to jump up (had enough of the ****ing 103 Victories).
I have a great local shop to hit the heads, now just need the barrels and slugs.

I wouldnt do a 107 if you plan on keeping true duals. Talk to someone at Fuel Moto, Dragos, or Hillside. Basically you'd be spending a lot of money for 4 cubes, and since you have true duals, porting your heads isnt really recommended.
Thanks Kieth. It is actually a 96" so looking at the bigger cubes for power. I am not adverse to an upgrade into a 2 into 1 to help build torque.
Local shop (Edmonton, Alberta Canada) talks alot about head work helping the 107 kits breath like any motor build up. They actual suggested milling the old barrels and just buy pistons. I'm thinking for the cost may as well buy the whole kit and save the parts for another build.

Every reputable shop that knows what they are talking about will tell you that it all has to work together. Cams, exhaust, mufflers, cylinders, heads, etc.
It really is of no value to discuss heads, displacement, etc in isolation of other parts of the build.
A 2-1 isnt required, you can get good numbers out of a 2-1-2, various performance parts suppliers make them with varying results (also depending on the other parts of the build)
But again, you should find a reputable shop that knows what they are talking about.
Fuel Moto or Zipper's Performance are two that come to mind for getting your cylinders bored and pistons to match. If you want to keep true duals, a set that have stepped head pipes, like Rineharts would be better. Straight true duals like Vance and Hines rob power so you'll never see the full potential of the money you have and are sticking in the engine.

got any facts to support your statement about it being a waste of money to port heads with true duals? A very experienced tuner told me that the few ponies left on the table wouldn't be missed between a 2/1 to 2/2...he had nothing to gain by me buying either system...told me to buy what I liked
Thank you Keithhu and skydude426, I hear you.
I use to build Mopars back in the day - 400 blocks, 440 cranks, mild compression big over lap cams with porting/polishing shaved heads all the fun stuff and I concur. Tickled the 500 hp.
I am leaning on an old school HD brother at Hyper Cycle a local speed shop. We have and had this conversation too.
He is a builder who likes Woods, 10.5 with 107 displacement. Recommends some mild head clean up stuff or crazy with a different cam setup. He is a promoter of the Thunder Max tuner too. I talked to V&H and they have maps for mild to wild 107 CI builds. They say they can make it work. I want to build torque for long haul riding and kicking a couple Victories i ride with
I wonder if an S&S kits is worth the money compared to knock off or OEM milled kits or boring my own. I wondered who had walked down this rabbit hole before and their thoughts?
Thanks again gents for your input and I still pull all my own wrenches - best part of the build.

Thank you for the input Screamin Beagle. Cool handle too.

For the extra $400 I'd go with bolt-on 110 kit. either S&S or HD.
DTTJGlide, Thanks for weighting in. I thought the case needs machined in order for the 110 CI kits to fit? I am all over the cubes for sure - there is no substitute.
