Seriously, I hope you enjoy many, many great miles on the wing. I grew up on the back of my dad's wings, and it was the greatest bike I knew. Probably would have had one last year instead of the SG, but I wasn't ready to grow up.

You forgot one little itty bitty detail on the "pro's" category - 115 horsepower. Don't get me wrong, I love my Street Glide. Wouldn't sell it for anything. But when I'm in a mood for adrenaline, the HD stays in the garage and the Wing and I head for the horizon. As for the air filter, yeah it's a pain to change, but it's only a 3 hour job and only needs changing every couple of years. Maintenance is actually much easier on my Wing than my Street Glide. Oil change on the Wing is 15 minutes, but it's 1-2 hours to do all 3 holes on my glide.

You're correct with the additional power in the Wing, guess I didn't list it because it wasn't a factor to me. My GW usually got about 40 MPG ... about the same as my Hog. Liked the wing, love the HD ... no regrets here at all. The different is this, which bike can you see yourself still having after 10 years ... it wasn't the Goldwing. Which bike would I eventually like to pass along to my son ... it's the HD. No bashing from me, like I said earlier ... you're riding is all that matters. Enjoy it!
I was given an offer on my 2005 Road King this past week and took it. It's now history. And, to make things even more complicated, at least for the guys I work with at the shop, I bought a 2007 Gold Wing. I'll still be a regular here, but, I need to learn a lot about the Wing too. Please don't launch any missles my way - I was ready to change and it is normal for me to keep a bike for a couple of years and then move on. Hope I can still contribute - feel free to ask any questions regarding Wing vs RK comparisions.
Ted, you obviously know what you're doing and I sincerely wish you the best. You of all people know that ANY bike has it's pro and cons, these are machines maintained by humans. I'd love to hear your version of the comparisons when you're ready. Nothing machine related ... After I traded in my GW, I went to the Honda dealer to get a new cable lub fitting (they didn't have any in stock with HD). I never felt so unwelcomed in my life ... the whole parking lot practically stopped in the tracks while I pulled in and everybody watched me until I parked and walked into the dealership. I just thought it was strange because I never see that happen when a metric pulls in the HD shop. Oh well, I know metric owners bash HD and vise versa ... just human nature I guess but I think it's slowly changing for the better. Cheers and enjoy the road.
Just stay safe with your new ride...I'm sure it's a great bike. I would like to hear what you find out as time goes by about the differences between the two. As long as you are happy, I'm happy for you. And I won't even joke around about the moped and chubby chick thing...JK lol.
Time for a quick update - regarding differences between the RK and the '07 Goldwing. I bought the bike June 11 and now have accumulated 1800+miles. The bike eats interstates and curvy backroads like crazy. Power is non-stop - 90 mph happens before you know it - getting on I-81 is fast. Heat is not a factor for me or my passenger. Comfort is first class for both driver and rider. (First bike wife has ever really liked) No vibration at any speed or rpm - the 6 cylinders are close to turbine smooth. Slow speed handling is as good or better than the RK. Fluid changes involve only 4 qts of oil - 4K is first change and 12K after that. Center stand is nice for washing bike. Anti-dive system works well. ABS and partially linked brakes. Now for a couple negatives. The handgrips are too small - buying a pair of isogrips to fix that. Cruise control takes a while to take over - an adjustment fixes that, I've read. Bike is extremely complex - many parts which increases chances of problems down the road - however, a 3 year warranty. No HD sound - I do miss that.

Thanks for the kind words, friends. I also wave at anyone no matter what the ride - hey - 2 wheels are 2 wheels. A couple observations after a 150 mile ride with my wife on the back today (temps in the high 80's). At speed, absolutely no heat from the water cooled engine - this was a major problem for her riding the RK - she would actually sear her right ankle if caught in traffic. I now have ABS, a feature I was acustomed to on the BMW I had previous the RK. I am convinced that ABS is a safety feature all bikes should have as standard equipment. Working in a HD shop, I hear the racket from loud pipes all day - quiet seems to suit me and the Wing is quiet. I do park the bike along side the others at the shop and have taken quite a "ride", but, to be honest, several of the mechs have other brands too. Anyway, not trying to convince anyone which is better or worse, it's a personal choice. At one time, we bought Americanto support the workers here - my bike was built in Marysville OH by American workers using international parts. I'll be checking back.
I just went the other direction and sold my goldwing and bought a Ultra. The wing is a great bike. Much quicker than the ultra but they are two different bikes. Keep after the wheels and clean them a lot or they will get in bad in a hurry. Especially the back wheel! Air filter change is about two hours work and can be done by someone with limitedwrenching skills. Careful with the tupperware too! Little tabs break off fairly easy.

Sounds like you are enjoying the new Wing they are a great bike. The 1800 is no comparison to the older wings. I love my GL1800 and will likely always have one as long as I am able to ride, but like a few others on this board I missed the Harley. Don't be suprised if in the future you end up with two bikes, I did. Now have a Road King to keep the GW company in the garage. The Goldwing is for miles and the Harley for smiles. We have been coast to coast on the Wing and it is the perfect bike for two-up long distance, though even with hwy pegs for a second foot position 12- 15 hours in the saddle is hard on my old knees. As great a bike as the Wing is, sometimes I just feel the need for a breeze on my knees and a shake in my shorts and nothing scratches that itch better than my Road King Classic.
