Default FIRST BIKE

Hey guys,
just wanted some feedback from you on my plans. I am taking the safety course next week and then plan on buying my firat motorcycle EVER. i dont count the dirt bikes i had as a kid ( biggest was a 250 cc)
I believe i have made up my mind on a roadglide, too much bike for a first timer? oh, by the way i am 6'7" / 255 lbs. give me your thoughts please.

Thanks

I went with an Electra Glide Classic as my first bike after the safety course. Folks told me to start small and work up, but that would have been costly so I just jumped right in and never looked back. I think you'll be fine with a road glide.

If you go into it with a healthy respect for your lack of experience and work your way into getting comfortable with it then you should be okay. Took me damn near 6 months on my Ultra to really feel comfortable on it. Just be honest with yourself when it comes to your abilitiies and then dial it down a couple more notches you should be fine.

I think that is a great choice for a first bike. If you get something smaller, you will want to move up almost immediately anyway. I would highly recommend getting the Ride Like a Pro IV video. I think it would help you get up to speed on the slow speed handling more quickly. It is additional info that you may not learn in the class you are taking. Go for it! You will be incredibly happy when you get out on the road. If you are looking for a way to get out, have a blast, and relieve some stress, you could not pick a better way.

Just be happy with your choice if its a big bike to start with, thats okay as long as your okay with it. You don't have to start small and work your way up. Just start...smart and ride safe with your choice. Go with your gut feeling.

I had rented a lot of HD's before I got my rk custom. Coming off little metric bikes, the size of the rk custom seemed big, but is no trouble to ride. I am 6'1" and weigh 350ish lbs, and I could not be happier. Take your time, and your comfort level will increase. At your size, getting a 'little' HD would make no sense. JMHO.

I , Like you, took the Riders Edge Course before I started riding again after 30 yrs. I bought an Ultra. And like brokenfingers said, leave your ego at home when riding. I rode by myself for the first 3/4000 miles, so I wasnt distracted or riding outside of my comfort zone. A year and half later I still will not ride with some people. Remember every time you get on your bike and say to yourself, [This is not a race.] Dan

I agree with all the above. Remember, not to try and follow people if they are going faster than you want to, always stay in your comfort zone (learned that while on my Buell trying to follow a buddy on his R1 . . .). Your bike is a lot of fun, as long as you let yourself learn it . . . once you do you will not believe what it can do, but for now, just get comfortable with it and enjoy it!!!

Man, I love my RK!!!
