Can a standard 590 be used or do I need a road tech? will it interface with the stock radio and interrupt with prompts? I know the NIM is required. I called Garmin and they claim I can use a standard model. I have a used model I can purchase very reasonably but if its not compatible its obviously not worth it. Ive looked at everything I can here and cant find a definitive answer.
I have several buddies running the non H-D models. It works the same for them. They on pre 14 bikes. Then go to POI Factory and down load all the Harley Dealrships into the gps. Now you have the same thing except for the sticker. I have a 15 and use WASE on my phone on the handlebar with RAM X-Grip and when it talks it blu tooth to radio. I'll do that on trips and use big dash GPS also but not routing

thx k mel. I actually passed the standard model on to my nephew. ironically, the best deal I could find on a new model was on ebay from a hd stealer in minnesota. 150.00 cheaper than my local dealer.

I have a 590 and the last thing I want is 'prompts' bursting thru my radio on my Ultra. At that, I don't always have the radio on while riding.
With bike noise, attempting to 'hear' a prompt isn't always realistic IMO.
Visual popups are fine for me- I've run Garmins across the country and have never used voice prompts.
There is another thread on here where some fella was having trouble getting his audio prompts to occur on his Ultra.
Have you run a Garmin GPS on a motorcycle before? (not in a car, on a bike)
i had a 550 then a 660 hooked to sound systems on my road kings. this will be my first time linking to a factory HK system. since i bit the bullet on a HD unit with NIM I think ill have what i need.

Only the Road Tech units have the ability to interrupt the audio from an alternate source for the voice direction prompts. Standard GPS units will need to be set as the audio source in order to hear the voice direction prompts.
For use on '14 & later, the AUX input wiring & dealer flash to enable AUX input are required. '06-'13 models have front panel AUX input standard, but may require NIM module:
