HD Cruise control or MCG Cruise buddy, opinions please
I am thinking of adding cruise to the SG. So I want some opinions here. HD cruise for the purchase and install price or MCG Cruise Buddy for $90 and I do it. I have read several posts and really don't want to tackle the HD cruise install myself.
RE: HD Cruise control or MCG Cruise buddy, opinions please
well it depends what you want... do want a real cruise control that will maintain the speed up and down some grades? or do you want to keep the speed just for a moment for a quick rest, but need to constantly adjust for the longer hauls.
My Ultra has the cruise control and works sweet on the open road. My Sporty has the Throttle master (?) which is just a thottle lock extension. Works great for giving my hand a rest for a few seconds, but i still have to make throttle adjustments.

That's a big difference in price between Cruise Buddy and OEM but I think you should wait until you can handle the cost of Harley cruise control. I had it added at time of purchase. The precision of the speed control, ease of use,and quality of the fit and finish of the hardware is well worth it IMHO.

So one more question, is this mentioned in the service manual? I recall reading issues about the pin locations being vague. I just got quoted a price from the dealer for $600. WOW that is high. I am halfway tempted to try the install myself.

Alot of SG owners did their own install or you can get an Indy to do it for MUCH cheaper. Either way, go with the true cruise control if you do any kind of open road riding.

Buy the HD cruise kit from a 20% off HD dealer (Chicago HD, Zanotti's, etc.) Many forum members who are not wrenchers (me included)have done the installation, but most also own the HD Service Manual. Doesn't require special tools. But have an indy shop do it for you for 1/2 what the dealer will charge. Figure about $290 for the HD cruise unit and maybe $100 for the install at an indy shop. $600 is ridiculous; buthey, it's your money. One of HD's best functioning accessories IMHO. I haven't seen a post where someone put the HD unit on their bike and regretted doing so.

Had the dealer add cruise to my EG at purchase, cost me $360 which included installation. Definitely worth the money and works & looks a whole lot better than any throttle lock.
Go with the OEM cruise control if at all possible- you'll be happier in the long run...

Get the HD Cruise and install it yourself. Not difficult just takes a little time and cheaper than having an indy or dealer do it.. Installed it on mine and now wish I'd done it sooner.
RE: HD Cruise control or MCG Cruise buddy, opinions please
Well I bought the cruise from Zanotti's, been using them for a while. I will install it myself. Wish me luck. Hopefully they have it in stock and I will get it within a week or so.

Just did the Harley cruise install myself. Saved a bundle over having the Stealer do it! Did have a small issue pinching some wires causing a short so be careful when mounting the new switch housing on the bars. Also, no need to take the outer fairing off, you can access the harness by taking off the headlight. Any questions pm me or post on here. Plenty of great help on here.
