Windshield doesn't fit...more work
I went through the whole process over the last few weeks of ordering the CVO windshield brackets, etc. thinking I could find the grommets with no problem and ordering a Freedom Shields CVO shield.
all that crap ended up going back in the mail. The windshield itself intruded so much into the handlebar space, Factory 47's, that they weren't going to be anywhere close to where I wanted them so I boxed everything up and returned it, to a tune of about $85 total shipping. Oh well, it's just experience I'm buying.
So I ordered another Freedom Shields and it arrived today. Bigger than damnit, the curve on that comes back too far for where I fastened down the handlebars. I went ahead and set them a couple weeks ago thinking this wouldn't be a big deal and even left a little gap, 3/4" or so between the stock shield and the handlebars. Nacelle, everything went back together.
So now, I guess if I want to keep this windshield, I've got to bring the bars back another 3/4" or so. Not a big deal, but crap, I didn't want to go through that. Some say you can do the adjustment without taking off the whole nacelle, we'll see. It's only a couple of hours to yank the aux lights off and the headlight to get to the handlebar bolts but not what I wanted to do this weekend.
I had already run into Factory 47's over achiever attitude when it comes to manufacturing
They are aggressive with their knurling, very much so. So when you install the clamps, that knurled area is really biting into the clamp and vise versa
So the only solution here is to remove everything and reset the handlebars. Per the service manual, I popped the Road King insert off and loosened the two allen bolts, but them handlebars are not going to budge.
Hello Friday evening, good to meet you again in the garage with my friends from Anheuser-Busch. I'm sure we'll have a good time, same as last. Oh Domino's? You want to join us?
