if you buy the 'new bike' coverage, but wait until the factory warranty is about to expire, then you've really wasted money as you're paying for the 2 years that have already passed.
I fail to understand your post.

If i buy a new bike and i purchase a 5 year ESP I am really only getting 3 plus the 2 yrs it currently has. If i elected to purchase a 3 yr ESP, It is only 1 additional yr plus factory total 3 yrs. Very misleading considering the new bike comes with 2.

purchase 3 and your only getting 1, purchase 5 your only getting 3 and so on.

So what would be the difference if you waited until the last month of factory warranty? I purchased 7 and only have 5 yrs coverage, no difference if i would have purchased it when i bought the bike.

After reading on these HD forums about Jim Palmer & Boardtracker, I sucked it up and spent the $. My 2016 FLHTK has too much electronics to worry about. And if I never use it, GREAT!

When I told my local dealer's service mgr. about it, he tries to sell me on their 3rd party policy. I had just told him I already bought one. Then he got snarky and said he didn't know if they would accept it.

Using a command voice, I said "then I'll find a dealer who will."

The 3-service techs standing there looked shocked. The service mgr. shut down his attitude.

As the Futurama cartoon character Bender sez, "bite my shiny metal ***"

They should have made him apologize, seems like all the HD dealers are getting into the 3rd party business, HD is on life support bleeding money yet they won't reward their loyal customers, wouldn't it make sense to match 3rd party pricing and earn that business. Bottom line he will accept your policy and was just butt hurt at not making the sale.

I asked the closest dealer about the ESP while I was getting bent over for a nail in my rear tire I picked up going to their service department, guy didn't even blink at quoting me $3200 for the seven year plus tire & wheel. DirectEsp will sell me the same policy same coverage for a bone stock 17 RK for under $1500.

Which way you gonna jump ? Seriously and dealers all seem think everyone coming through the door is a complete noob.

what's not to understand? the esp runs concurrently with the factory warranty. if you have a covered breakdown in that time, the factory warranty will cover the repair on the bike and the esp will buy you towing, food, and lodging.

agreed. there is an msrp for the plan, even though the dealer is free to price it however they want. jim palmer (when he was selling hd's esp) told me that the msrp of the 7 year was around $2200. my dealer was selling it for $2500. he was selling it for $1800.

I was quoted $2400 5 yr without wheel and tire, got 7yr for about $1300.

I used to think the same way until I sat down with the ESP guy at my local HD this past Saturday.

The 'new bike' coverage covers up to 7 years, but a 'used bike' coverage is only up to 5 years. If you compare the price of a 7 year 'new bike' coverage cost to the 5 year 'used bike' coverage cost, the 7 year 'new bike' coverage is about $300 or so LESS than the maximum 5 year 'used bike' plan. So in the end, it is actually less expensive to buy the new bike coverage despite the 2 year loss.

That's very true. I'm a little old school but I'm learning.
