Extended Coverage
Hell Twisted said to get my **** together before I post pictures again..lol.. I know the HD one covers any wheel that came stock on the bike full replacement. And it's not a you pay and we send you the check.
I'm buying a used 2016 ultra with 3 months left on the factory warranty. If I buy a 3 year extended, I'm told I, in effect, only bought a 1 year warranty ? That makes no sense to me. Why would I pay $2000 (3 year) for $1200 (1 Year) coverage ? I'm told 1 year extended coverage starts from the time of purchase. That would mean the extended coverage is a waste as there is the factory warranty !? Why doesn't the extended coverage start when the factory warranty runs out ?
If you buy a 3 year warranty with 3 months left on the factory warranty, you should get 21 months use of the extended warranty. And the price you paid is outrageous. When I bought my 5 year extended warranty, I paid about $1400 after negotiations.
I used to think the same way until I sat down with the ESP guy at my local HD this past Saturday.
The 'new bike' coverage covers up to 7 years, but a 'used bike' coverage is only up to 5 years. If you compare the price of a 7 year 'new bike' coverage cost to the 5 year 'used bike' coverage cost, the 7 year 'new bike' coverage is about $300 or so LESS than the maximum 5 year 'used bike' plan. So in the end, it is actually less expensive to buy the new bike coverage despite the 2 year loss.

i neglected to mention that there is definitely a price discrepency between the 'new' bike esp, and the 'used' bike esp, with the latter being considerably more expensive.
The dealers feel confident in their position & judge it by all the wanna bees hanging out in their parking lots, with low mileage bikes, on a sunny Saturday.
Twisted go and read the fine print and the wheel and tire has limits and max tow is $100.00, Max wheel $300.00 . And you may have to pay your service bill if your claim
is not processed before your bike is done. Not as good as the Harley one. I just paid $2,200
for seven year with tire and wheel. Also the discount has a limit on rental and Hotel.

A great aspect of these contracts, is the rider can take control of the claim. You call for authorization prior to the repair and there will be no surprises. Here to help; let me know if you have any more questions.
It is better to utilize AAA or your cycle insurance for roadside assistance, regardless of coverage--Factory Warranty or Extended Service Plan. If a failure is not a covered repair, the towing coverage doesn't kick in. Most insurance policies have or can provide quality roadside or join AMA or AAA.
After reading on these HD forums about Jim Palmer & Boardtracker, I sucked it up and spent the $. My 2016 FLHTK has too much electronics to worry about. And if I never use it, GREAT!
When I told my local dealer's service mgr. about it, he tries to sell me on their 3rd party policy. I had just told him I already bought one. Then he got snarky and said he didn't know if they would accept it.
Using a command voice, I said "then I'll find a dealer who will."
The 3-service techs standing there looked shocked. The service mgr. shut down his attitude.
As the Futurama cartoon character Bender sez, "bite my shiny metal ***"

Remember the coverage is valid at any state licensed repair facility and the claims authorization can be made by the contract holder. This way you can ensure the claim is made properly and the amount charged is in line with H-D's factory warranty book time.
Most ESP's never pay out anywhere near what they cost. If they did the issuer would go bankrupt. Especially when you consider the selling dealer makes a profit. The company that backs the ESP has to cover marketing cost, employee cost, claims, etc. and still make a profit. I read on average that only about 12% of the cost of the ESP goes to paying claims. You'll come out ahead in the long run if you put what the ESP cost into savings and self insure. Sure if you buy a lot of ESP's on your purchases you might have one that pays for itself occasionally. It's kinda like playing a slot machine. They make a very large profit off most people and only pay out the large claims that are more than the cost of the ESP for a few. If you buy it with the bike and finance it you are paying even more when you count the interest you pay on it.
