you will lose so much money trading up, its crazy. (say you lose ~$2000?)
then you have to RE-DO everything you did to your bike ($3000?)
and the "Harley Tax" on a M8 is like $1500 (pipes, AC, PV) vice $750 on a Twin Cam.
you could LOSE 5k,
but if you put 2 or 3k into you bike, WOW!!!
I don't think my stock M8 is that much stronger than a well tuned Stage 1 TC103 without a Cat.
YMMV.

What Kuma said...and everyone else. You just need some cams, exhaust, and a good pro dyno tune. Ohlins all around.
you will be at a loss by thousands. Just imagine if you bought that M8....do you really think you will be happy for too long without sinking tons of dough into it to set it up and not only that but upgrade a bunch of things that aren’t must haves....

Fuel Moto's 107, and Howard's Ohlins set-up, will make that bike think it should be on the track.

The bad thing about "building" a bike as you like is that you will see very little of that money when and if you ever sell your bike so be prepared to either take this loss or "ride" your money and miles out of it.
When I had my 2000 Ultra T/C 88, I had a Baker 6spd tranny installed in it only to discover that even though I liked the tranny but the T/C 88 just didn't have enough muscle to push it very well. So I had the "95" Big Bore Kit installed in it and it did make huge mid-range torque improvement and it ran great but a big, heavy bike will never keep up with the smaller cruisers.
On my current bike I changed the exhaust, had a tuner installed, and had it dyno'ed just to make sure that it ran cooler and sounded great.
If you want a newer bike and you can afford I would rather go that way as opposed to dropping money into an older machine that in time most dealers won't even service, it that's of any consideration to you.
