Here's a few links to check out if you're looking at upgrading suspension. Any upgrade will sure beat the hell out of the ride with stock suspension.

Front Suspension Testing Report

Rear Suspension Testing Report

Hope this helps!

Before you go with a FM 107, have you done full exhaust, air filter, tune? Stock cams? Your 103 would respond well to the Fuel Moto formula, my little 96 sure did.

Bolting on (and properly adjusting) a set of rear Ohlins isn't a big deal, I spent an extra $125 and bought a decent cycle jack so I could do it at home. Fork cartridges are a bit more complicated and definitely more expensive, but I'd like to get them one day. Right now, the Ohlins Blacklines are great, night and day difference in ride quality vs. stock air shocks.

I've done a bunch of the above mods, but can't seem to tear into my well tuned and well running 96" although I'd love to have the FM 107 kit. But it's just not needed in order for me to enjoy the bike.

I don't see a need to buy a new bike though for your use case, the 1st and 2nd year depreciation alone would pay for some great mods on your '11 RKC.
Yes I am leaning towards keeping my bike, a lot of good info on here from the members and it is greatly appreciated. For one thing I really like the RKC, don't sell them anymore in the west and I have spent about 4 grand just on making mine fit me and look the way i want. For another 3 to 4 grand I will get some more power and better handling, maybe better than the new M8 although not as smooth and refined and I can afford to retire sooner. A new bike and starting over would be a big expense and you can chase that carrot all your life. That is fine if you are rich but I am not and more expense means more work and at my age I like my freedom from work.

My thoughts exactly. JR

I'm thinking a jump from 96 to 107 you would feel; a jump from 103 to 107, not very much. It's more a numbers thing; how much of a difference is it financially?

The cams they are using are actually fairly modest. You could go for one of Woods high torque range. Check out the Hs on his dyno page.

Yes, to the suspension, then I'd start with just cams and opening up the breathing a bit, if you have not already, and see how it feels.

If you're worried about financial cost/return, keep your stock cams, stick them back in when you finally sell the bike, and sell them separately.

Have you spoken to some of the people offering more bespoke packages and what can do for what money?

How many miles have you on the bike? That's another factor, e.g. waiting to strip the top end off until it's tired enough to warrant doing a valve seat job.

Very low miles on the bike, I have a few bikes so the riding gets spread out. I think a good cam would be where to start with a better breather, my exhaust would be fine. I am not looking to race, just want some more get up and go. I find myself shifting close to redline a bit and not a lot happening if you know what I mean. I had a 89 Softail evo with a ev27 cam, performance pistons, s&s carb and single fire ignition. A much lighter bike I know but it would jump when you nailed it. That was a great bike. I think if I can get torque numbers up around 110 I would be happy with my Road King. A cam with a nice broad torque curve would be the ticket for a heavier bike like a Road King. I will have to do some research on cams I guess.

You gotta figure out if that new payment is worth the new bike. I traded my 2007 RKC for a 2011 Ultra Limited chocolate turd. It was a big piece of s##t. I still miss my RKC. Some times the grass isn't always greener. Just drop a S&S 124 in it. Upgrade the clutch and stuff. Do the Suspension. Still cheaper than the M8.

Hey grbrown, hate to hijack thread but tried to private message but this new phone isn't cooperating, you have mentioned in one of your posts that there is a section set aside just for air ride in the tech section, where is that can't find it, need to do some research.
